Let’s Talk About Putter Shafts
The shaft transmits the golfer’s intention to the business end of the putter, and it should be the best in every way. A golf putter shaft can either help or hinder golf putting performance. It is a hindrance when the putter shaft is bent or offset or mis-vectored. A perfectly straight and sturdy shaft that is precisely vectored into the center of mass of the putter head is a fundamental requirement for any impacting tool, and a golf putter is an impacting tool. Of course, it is also a major hindrance when the putter shaft does not fit or feel right. The Quantum Golf Putter Shaft embodies absolutely nothing that hinders putting performance, and it embodies everything that helps.
The Quantum Golf Putter Shaft is STRAIGHT
It should be obvious that the shaft of an impacting tool should be straight, but oddly that isn’t the way it is with many golf putters.
Many golf putters currently in use have offset or bent shafts. But using a putter with a bent shaft makes about as much sense as using a bent pool cue.
And using a putter with an offset hosel makes about as much sense as using an offset baseball bat.
The shaft of the Quantum Golf Putter is perfectly straight, and that is as it should be for putting precision…one of the many reasons why the Quantum Golf Putter Shaft is superior.
The Quantum Golf Putter Shaft is PRECISELY VECTORED
Impacting tools always have the impact point in perfect alignment with the power vector.
The physics of this is difficult to convey but you will get the point easily by the illustration shown left. Would you play tennis with a racquet like the one shown on the left? Of course not! So why would you putt with a putter that looks like the one on the right?
It begs the question: why are golf clubs heel shafted in the first place? Obviously they would work better if they were center shafted like croquet or polo mallets. The answer is that the governing body for golf has a rule that field clubs must be heel shafted – the reason for this rule is to preserve tradition even at the expense of performance. But their heel shafting rule does not extend to the green clubs, so there is no reason why a golfer has to put up with a poorly vectored putter. A poorly vectored putter is detrimental to putting performance, mainly due to head twist upon impact. But poorly vectored putters also vibrate upon impact and that is annoying. The Quantum Golf Putter Shaft is precisely vectored into the center of mass of the putter head, so it never twists or vibrates upon impact. This is good for putting performance and another reason why the Quantum Golf Putter shaft is superior.
The Quantum Golf Putter Shaft is STURDY
Once again we realize that in golf there are two very different games – the field game and the green game. It is beneficial for field clubs to have somewhat flexible shafts so the club-head can be whipped for increased swing velocity at the moment of ball impact. Not so on the green where there is no need for increasing stroke velocity with shaft whip. On the green where precision is all that matters, shaft whip would be detrimental. The Quantum golf putter shaft is rigid, and that is beneficial for putting performance. This is another reason why the Quantum Golf Putter Shaft is superior.
The Quantum Golf Putter Shaft is the PRIMARY ALIGNMENT AID
Putter makers have been falling all over themselves over who can outdo the other on the subject of alignment, this ever since the old two-ball putter made is debut many years ago. Ironically it is a physiological fact that even at the slow stroke velocity of a short putt, our eyes are not capable of seeing any of these alignment aids anyway.
So it turns out the only alignment aid that is effective is one which helps you set your stance such that the striking face of the putter is perpendicular with your intended line. A couple round disks located behind the striking face, or any other marking on the top of the putter doesn’t help with that.
The only thing that can help with that is your line of sight down the shaft onto the top of your putter, and here it helps if your putter is a blade instead of a mallet, and here it is absolutely necessary that the shaft is straight and properly vectored.
When the top of the Quantum Putter is in alignment with the shaft, then you can be sure that the striking face is perpendicular with the intended line. If not, then you can be sure you are not properly aligned and about to send the ball off the intended line.
And the Quantum Golf Putter has taken this alignment principle one step further by milling a shaft sized silver mark on the top of the head which aids in precisely lining up with the reflection line on a black shaft. This is alignment at its very best, and another reason why the Quantum Golf Putter is superior.
The Quantum Golf Putter Shaft is CUSTOM FITTED
Golfers come in all sizes. Some are tall, some medium, and some short. So it makes sense that putter shafts should come in a length that suits its owners stature and putting stance. Quantum Clients specify their desired shaft length when they order their Quantum Golf Putter. You can specify any length between the governing authority minimum of 18 inches up to our standard maximum of 36 inches (in one inch increments).
The lie angle of a Quantum Putter Shaft is 75 degrees. We have experimented with putter lie angles over the years and have found this to be the optimum angle. Any flatter angle encourages a “barn door stroke”; anything more upright reduces the effect of shaft alignment. We can however shaft your putter plus or minus one degree from our 75 degree standard if you wish.
Custom shaft fitting is another reason why the Quantum Golf Putter Shaft is superior.
The Quantum Golf Putter Shaft is REFLECTIVE BLACK
Of course one would think that the color of the shaft would matter not when it comes to putting performance. So we decided to make our Quantum Golf Putter Shafts black plated stainless steel, simply because we thought it would enhance the beauty of our putter which has a black grip and a black/silver head. Looking good is important. But then we were surprised that the color of the shaft is indeed important. Our black shaft is much easier on the eyes than the shiny chrome plated shaft we previously used (and is still used by most other putter makers), especially on sunny days. Plus the light reflection line that runs down the black shaft helps greatly in aligning the head with the shaft. So we are very happy with decision to go black on our shaft, and you will be too.
