Let’s Talk About Putting Stroke
Golfers might refer to it as “smooth stroke” but what we are really talking about here is one of th
e fundamental principles of physics, MOMENTUM. It is the momentum of the golf putter that imparts
momentum to the golf ball upon impact. To get the golf ball to where the golfer wants it to go, the golf putter must impart the correct momentum to the ball upon impact. In the simplest of terms, good momentum on the golf putter results in good momentum on the golf ball, and good ball momentum results in sunk putts.
Momentum is a function of MASS and VELOCITY. But since the velocity of a putting stroke is very slow especially on short putts, good putter momentum must be achieved with mass. The more mass the more momentum and the smoother the stroke. This is why we have made the Quantum Golf Putter Head so massive. Let’s digress to talk about the difference between Green Clubs (putters and chippers) and Field Clubs (drivers and irons). Question: Why is it beneficial for green clubs to have MORE massive heads while it is beneficial for field clubs to have LESS massive heads? Answer: Field clubs including irons and especially drivers rely upon swing velocity to generate momentum, and high velocity is easier to generate with a lightweight head. On the other hand, Green Clubs including chippers and especially putters rely upon head mass instead of velocity to generate momentum. So when they say, “The Green Game is entirely different than the Field Game” it is most certainly true.

Other golf putters lack the mass to generate good momentum at slow putting stroke velocity. This is why so many golfers suffer a wavering stroke. A wavering stroke is detrimental to putting precision because the direction of momentum at impact is unreliable. Unreliable direction at impact causes unpredictable direction of golf ball launch.
